AFC, How to Schedule a Video Loan Request Online
Please note:
All videos with a VLD call number are laser discs and can only be viewed on a laser disc player which are rare to find. It is to your benefit to choose a video with a DVD or VCA call number. If the item is only available in VLD and you do not have access to a laser disc player you are welcome to watch the film at the center where we have multiple laser disc players.
All videos whose call number ends with a P (for example DVD 000P, or VCA 000P) are in PAL format and can only be viewed on a PAL-International VHS or DVD player.
All videos whose call number state that they are "On reserve" can only be checked out for 6 hours.
Obtaining the Video's Call Number
To obtain the call number of a video you should go to the Bobcat webpage.
1. Once you connect to Bobcat, in the drop down menu which reads “Specific Bobst Library Locations” choose “Avery Fisher Center”.
2.Then limit your search to video recordings by clicking the third blue button on the left hand side labeled “Keyword Search”.
3. The page will then be extended to include two small gray boxes, choose the first gray box that reads “Limit Search”.
4.In the dropdown menu labeled “Format” choose the last item on this list, it should be “video recordings, films”. Press the “Set Limits” button.
5. You should now be able to search for films only. By using the dropdown menu next to the entry box you could search by title or even by actor or director by searching under “Author”. Once you make your entry and press enter a results page will appear.
6. If we only have one copy only one entry will be listed, but if we have multiple copies in various formats they will be listed in order of acquisition with the newest item last.
7.You will need to click on the blue link that will take you to the movie’s catalog record, once on that page you will need to scroll to the very bottom to find the movie’s call number. Its location should be "NYU Bobst A Fisher" and its call number should begin with a VCA or DVD.
If under its status the item does not say “available” and instead has "in processing", "on order" or a blank space please note this as the call number in your request form and someone will get back to you to let you know of its availability, more than likely the item is not available at the time of your request. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
You need to get the call number for each movie you intend to request. Maximum of 5 videos per patron.
Scheduling the Loan Request
NYU and Consortium Faculty and NYU Graduate Teaching Assistants may use the Scheduled Loan Request form to schedule video loans in advance. Videos will be pulled from the shelves and will be waiting for you at the pick-up time you specify.
Once you have all of your titles and call numbers you will need to go to the Avery Fisher Center's Scheduled Loan Request Form page.
You will need to fill out this form completely or your request will not go through. You will get a message that reads "Your Request has been submitted". Please DO NOT view this as a confirmation, your request is not actually confirmed until you receive an email directly from someone at the AFC saying it's confirmed for the date and time you requested. If you experience any problems or don't receive a confirmation email please contact Nelly Balbuena at 212-998-2582 or speak to a full time staff member at 212-998-2585
