Avery Fisher Center Services for Students

The Avery Fisher Center provides these services for undergraduate and masters students:

  • Viewing and listening of video and audio. (Within Bobst Library during the Avery Fisher Center's hours of operation)
  • Reference and research assistance with our collections.
  • Course reserves for select courses. (Check Bobcat for the reserve location code for your course. "ARES" is for Avery Fisher Center. "BRES" is for the main reserve department on Lower Level 2)
  • Group video viewings. (Must be pre-scheduled by your professor or teaching assistant)
  • Accept recommendations for new additions to our collections.

Borrowing Policies by Category

Applicable to:

  • NYU Undergraduate Students
  • NYU Masters Students
  • All Consortium Students

VIDEO RECORDINGS (Non-Reserve):

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Loan period of four hours or closing time, whichever is sooner.
  • Limit of one video per person at one time.
  • DVDs must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per hour, to a maximum of $20.00.

RESERVE VIDEO RECORDINGS:

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Loan period of four hours or closing time, whichever is sooner.
  • Limit of one video per person at one time.
  • DVDs must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per hour, to a maximum of $20.00.

AUDIO RECORDINGS (Non-Reserve):

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Loan period of four hours or closing time, whichever is sooner.
  • Limit of five recordings per person at one time. Reasonable exceptions may be made for multi-disc sets or special circumstances.
  • All recordings must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, to a maximum of $20.00 per item

RESERVE AUDIO RECORDINGS:

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Loan period of four hours or closing time, whichever is sooner.
  • Limit of two reserve recordings per person at one time cannot be exceeded.
  • All recordings must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, to a maximum of $20.00 per item.

COURSE RESERVE BOOKS and SCORES:

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Loan period of two hours or closing time, whichever is sooner.
  • Limit of two items per person at one time cannot be exceeded.
  • All Avery Fisher reserve volumes must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, to a maximum of $20.00 per item.

PERMANENT RESERVE BOOKS and SCORES:

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Loan period of two hours or closing time, whichever is sooner.
  • Limit of two items per person at one time cannot be exceeded.
  • All Avery Fisher reserve volumes must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, to a maximum of $20.00 per item.

PROFESSOR'S PERSONAL COPIES PLACED ON RESERVE
(All Formats):

  • Library use only. May not leave the building.
  • Print: Loan period of two hours or closing time, whichever is sooner. Limit of two reserve items per person at one time cannot be exceeded.
  • Music & Video: Loan period of four hours or closing time, whichever is sooner. Limit of two reserve sound recordings or one reserve video per person at one time cannot be exceeded.
  • All Avery Fisher personal reserve copies must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
  • Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, up to a maximum of $20.00 per item.

SCORES MARKED Non-Circulating OR Library Use Only
(from Floor-2 Stacks):

  • Music Faculty and Music Graduate Students Only: Eligible for loan period up to one week.
  • Procedure:
    1. Take the item(s) to the Reference Desk on the ground floor (not the Avery Fisher Center service desk).
    2. Identify yourself as music faculty or music graduate student.
    3. Fill out a special-loan form (requires a separate form for each item).
    4. Proceed then to the main circulation desk on the ground floor (service point at the far left end) and check out with your ID card as usual.

DIGITAL STUDIO PROJECTS:

  • Students may take video or audio materials to the Bobst Digital Studio in connection with their work of course-related multimedia projects.
  • Prior to checking out the materials from the AFC, students must make an appointment at the Studio . Phone: 212-992-9233
  • Complete and sign the loan form at the AFC service desk.
  • Loan period of four hours.
  • Return material to the AFC service desk.
